I am appalled that I haven’t blogged in so long. I have been so busy, and my dog hurt his back, and I am getting ready to retire, and I am in charge of the Men’s ministry at Church, and I have been watching Golf tournaments, and building a deck….wow…life is so…so hard, and I am so tired, can I quit now?
Get the point? I sure do, but I really get it better when I think about 3 guys in the Bible, and you may have heard about them: Moses, Joshua, and Elijah. Moses argued with a burning bush that he wasn’t the guy to send. Exodus Chapters 3 and 4 are really quite funny. (4:1)What if they don’t believe me? (4:10)But I am not eloquent. Or in today’s vernacular….I ain’t real bright and I can’t talk good. Oh for crying out loud Moses you were Pharoah’s son, and schooled better than anyone in the world. You were “born” for this! And then at the edge of the Red sea in Ex 14:15, God says, quit yelling at me and get moving….you know what to do (my paraphrase).
And then there’s Joshua, to whom God said, in my paraphrase, “Take the Promise Land”. Well things were going great until they got to the land of Ai…and they got their butts kicked (Joshua 7). Think about it, they had just kicked butt in Jericho and watched God defeat a fortress, and now Joshua was flat on his face, which is the right place to be…and God said (7:10), “Rise up! Why have you fallen on your face?” In other words…Get up and get moving!
And then Elijah, as told to us in 1 Kings 18:36-46, got a chance to watch God do one of the most amazing miracles in the bible, and then he killed 450 prophets of Baal by himself! Now that is a day’s work. And then hours later in Chapter 19:2, Jezebel basically said…Elijah is a dead man, and then Elijah, the great man of God became afraid, ran away, and asked to die…..
Before you cluck your tongue at how weak “those” guys were…Dan. Look at the mirror, and listen to what God is saying. That man is each of us when we experience overload, doubt, fear…that is the way that we are designed, so we have to look up and depend on God. And I think that God is perfectly okay with us asking Him…where are you? Why…why…why? Because at least we are considering Him!
But each time, His answer is so wonderful. Because what he says is, get up Dan, and get moving Dan…you what needs to be done, now get at it. Because He is really telling us that we don’t have the “right” to say when we die, and we don’t have the “right” to say when we quit. That is God’s “right.” Our job is to ask Him to show us what He wants us to do…today. And to ask that every day. Because in Matthew 6, Jesus tells us “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all of these things will be added to you as well.” And I love verse 34. “Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Or the NKJV version, which puts it, “sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
How cool is that. I am outta here for now, because I need to get up and get moving! And so do you. Standing (not cowering) in God’s grace, Dan
