To start something new…you need to consider the fact that YOU are new. Consider 2 Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and the author of your life then you have already completed the first step. The second step is to spend time reading the bible, and asking the Holy Spirit which is alive and ready to work in you…to guide you through the bible. Then…spend time in prayer asking God what He would like you to do.
It is really simple….oh yeah…and then you go. Where….depends. Think about this…you aren’t the only one who may be a little unsure about what God wants you do to. Shortly after Jesus picked the disciples…He started sending them out two by two. I can only imagine that they were asking each other…what are we doing? And the answer was probably….beats me…but He said go…so I am going to go. By the way…do you know how you can tell if you are allowing the Holy Spirit to lead you? The answer is…if He says “go”…..you go. Here is the situation in the bible….
Mark 6:7-13 – And he called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He charged them to take nothing for their journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belts— but to wear sandals and not put on two tunics. And he said to them, “Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you depart from there. And if any place will not receive you and they will not listen to you, when you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.” So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent. And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them.
Jesus gave them great power. And the bible tells us in Hebrews 13:8 – Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. So if that is the case….the same Jesus who sent the disciples is sending you today. The result will be the same. You will be given the resources and the power…and the encouragement to do the same things that the disciples did. But you won’t know until you “go.”
So be encouraged.…you have a lot of power. Now use it for God! And…don’t just stand there….”go”.
Grace and peace, Dan
