What is it about fear that has the ability to paralyze? Fear is an emotion based on speculation about what can happen during a period uncertainty. But it is real…and really can just stop you from doing anything. At that time, it is very lonely…and almost anything can send you into disappointment and anger. And sadly…the anger is always directed at somebody who is innocent…what a strange emotion.
I think about it like this. Have you ever taken a walk through a well known path in the woods that you just love. It is beautiful; trees, flowers, animals…very serene. Now how about strolling on the same path at night. Not so serene, and in fact, it is quite scary. You want to stop because you can’t see your way. You don’t know what is lurking there to hurt you…and you are paralyzed with fear.
In times like that, don’t you want somebody to call out to you? Or to show up with a familiar voice, or a flashlight. Or even better, to take you by the hand and lead you out of the danger(whether it is real or not…)? Yes we do. We want somebody to tell us it is alright….to tell us that they are there for us…to tell us that they are not going to run away.
That is what God promises us. By the way, Mohammed, Brahma, Buddha…the other “gods”….don’t offer you any promise. But look how God says it.
Isaiah 41:10 – fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:13 – For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”
About 365 times or so…God tells us to “fear not.” That is because He says that if you will trust me…I will deliver you every time. Now isn’t that cool? But you may be saying, how can I trust Him? What proof do you have? Well HE wrote it down so that HE could be held accountable to HIS promises. Now that is a God!! And it gets better….
Isaiah 41:17-20 –17 When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst, I the Lord will answer them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them. 18 I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys. I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. 19 I will put in the wilderness the cedar, the acacia, the myrtle, and the olive. I will set in the desert the cypress, the plane and the pine together, 20 that they may see and know, may consider and understand together, that the hand of the Lord has done this, the Holy One of Israel has created it.
AND…He says, “put me to the test”…to see if I won’t deliver. Now THAT is a God worth following.
Be encouraged, you have a God who is an awesome God! And He reigns in heaven and on earth. All you have to do is hear His voice and call out to Him! So don’t be afraid…
Grace and Peace, Dan
