He desires truth…

Day 136

Frankly I hate Psalm 51….because like a surgeon’s knife it operates in the area that we don’t want to be operated on.  That is the inner parts…those things that we have hidden and submerged…buried.  And that is always SIN. Because there is never anything else that we protect and guard so closely.

You see we are all like the moon.  We all have a dark side and we don’t desire anybody to see it.  And that may work here on earth but it doesn’t work with God.  He sees all because He dwells in the light and there is no darkness in Him.  John spells it out very clearly when he talks about the arrival of Jesus and how the world received Him:

John 3:19-21 – 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.” (NIV)

No matter how you want to try to protect yourself, and no matter how much we try to pretend that we aren’t…..we are evil, and we have been from birth.  You don’t think so?  If you have children…what is the most used word in your vocabulary….NO!  We use that word to train them, and protect them.  God does the same with us.  But did you have to train your child to be disobedient?  No!  They just come that way.  If you have ever said something like, “don’t you cross that line”…they will walk right up to it and look at you.  Well when we sin…we do the same thing with God.  In fact, Jesus even makes it more surgical….He talks about your heart.  So even if we “think” about crossing that line…we are GUILTY!  I know you have all heard this…it is from the Sermon on the Mount.  I hear a lot of people say, “I live by the sermon on the mount”…really? I doubt it.

Matthew 5:21-22 – 21“You have heard that the ancients were told, ‘YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER’ and ‘Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.’ 22“But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell. (NIV)

And MEN…the one that makes you squirm (me too by the way)…

Matthew 5:27-28 – 27“You have heard that it was said, ‘YOUSHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY’; 28but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. (NIV)

Jesus didn’t go in that detail to shame us…He did it to operate on us…to let our minds really understand how depraved we are.  He wants us to know the truth that WE ARE SINNERS…and we so desperately need redemption…and that is why Christ lived a life qualified Him for the death that He suffered.  He was SINLESS and yet He paid our sin-debt!

Back to Psalm 51.  You know the story…David just got fingered by Nathan the Prophet who said, “YOU ARE THE MAN!”  YOU are the adulterer…the liar…the murder…the deceiver.  And I am willing to wager that David after he said, “I am the man”…breathed a sigh of relief that he didn’t need to try to deny that he had sinned against God.  The burden was off…that doesn’t mean that there was no consequence of his sin…but at least he didn’t have to keep sinning by covering it up.  That is where this line came from…

Psalm 51:6 -Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, And in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom. (NASB)

And in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom….God will so graciously allow us to learn that we can’t hide out sin by trying to cover ourselves with fig leaves, more lies, or anything.  But the next line is so powerful…

Psalm 51:7 – 7Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Whiter than snow?  Every snow flake forms around a minute and imperceptible piece of dust.  THAT piece of dust is removed…by the blood of Jesus Christ.  By the forgiveness of God.  Because even that dust of sin is offensive to God.

BE ENCOURAGED!!!  We have a God who desires cleanliness…complete cleanliness and He paid the price for us to achieve that! We have a God who knows all of our dirty little secrets.  We have a God who wants us to fully understand our depravity and HIS HOLINESS.

Can you imagine if we all truly repented…if we all truly asked God to make us whiter than snow?  How our lives would change…how our nation would change…how our world would change?

Be encouraged friends…it is possible.  But it has to start with us.  God wants us to WANT to be clean.  He will take care of the rest of it.

Consider John 8:31-32 – 31To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

He desires truth in the inner parts.  THAT…will set you free.  Be encouraged…with God, all things are possible.

Grace and Peace, Dan

About Dan

My name is Dan. I grew up on the lovely Eastern Shore of Maryland...go Colonels! God really got a hold of me a few years back and asked me when I was going to "get in the game" and start living my life for Him. I have been burdened with the fact that many...many men in our world are wasting their lives while God wants them in the game. This is one of the ways that I am giving them that challenge...our nation, and our world depends on it. So thanks for your support...and your prayers. Dan
