If I can just touch His robe…

Day 137

When you are sick…there is nothing that you want more than to be healed.  Because when you are sick, nothing else matters. There is no one that I have ever met who is suffering from a cold or illness who says…”this is great, I hope I stay this way.”  Nope…we do anything…we try anything…no matter the cost.  Because we just want “it” to go away.

We really are pretty lousy about making the bible a book about humans.  We like to think that it is this “old” book that is not relevant to anything today.  First and foremost, Jesus was the best multi-tasker in history. We are looking at a story about some folks who were at their wits end…they had no earthly or human solution…they needed God to intervene.  And He did.

In Matthew 9, Jesus is teaching people about all sorts of things, and then something amazing happened…

Matthew 9:18 – 18While he was saying this, a ruler came and knelt before him and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.” 19Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples. (NIV)

Now that is cool.  Jesus didn’t say, okay…tell me the problem…what are the symptoms?  Jesus didn’t say, “she’s dead…game over”.  Jesus didn’t say, I am right in the middle of a lecture…give me a couple hours.  Nope…He got up and went. How are we when we see a need…do we wait until it is convenient?  Or do we wait for somebody else to take action?  Or do we go?

And then…it gets even more cool….but this time from Mark 5…

Mark 5:25-31  – 25A woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years, 26and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse— 27after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched His cloak. 28For she thought, “If I just touch His garments, I will get well.” 29Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction. 30Immediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My garments?” 31And His disciples said to Him, “You see the crowd pressing in on You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’” (NASB)

This was a woman who was out of options.  I can imagine that she got all sorts of advice from all sorts of people.  Take this, do that, see this doctor.  That will help….nothing.  In fact, she was getting worse.  BUT BE HUMAN FOR A MINUTE…it is not like she just walked up and got Jesus’ attention.  There were men around Him…women weren’t allowed to be in that crowd probably.

But she didn’t care…she had a NEED!  She was out of options….”if I can just touch His robe.”  So she pushed and crawled in the dirt and dust, and finally….she was almost there….if I can just reach out a little further and touch Him…just a little bit more. She was probably getting trampled and stepped on….but she would go to any length just to touch His robe.  This may be the last chance of her LIFE!!!  NOW THAT IS FAITH…not faith in experience…but faith in knowing that Jesus had “something” to offer. And it worked.  TWELVE YEARS of bleeding…and I am healed!!!  She was quietly celebrating…now if I can just slip away….but then.  “Who touched me?”  Busted…she heard Jesus words.  She was afraid…I have no idea…but something so miraculous had just happened that she was afraid.  Now this is really cool…

Mark 5:32-33 – 32And He looked around to see the woman who had done this. 33But the woman fearing and trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. (NASB)

I never  paid attention that before.  She told Him the whole truth?  I have no idea what that means…but can you imagine getting the chance to say, “Master…I tried everything, and nothing worked.  The world had no solutions for me…so I thought if I could just touch You….”  I think that she and Jesus had a great chat.  I think Jesus did that so that she could know that He knew that she trusted Him….even though she may not have known why.  Now the next conversation is really cool…

Matthew 9:22 – Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment.   (NIV)

Daughter?  Not Woman?  Jesus took her into His family…because of her faith.  Because when you trust in somebody…you will allow them to protect you…and that changes the relationship.  He told her…”your faith has healed you.”  Way to go…it wasn’t touching my robe….it was knowing that if you would just get close to me…I would heal you.  Wow!

Be encouraged friend…if you just will get close to Him…He will change your life.  And in this day and age…you probably don’t have to crawl on the ground and fight in the dirt.  You just have to know that He CAN and WILL do something for you…and that is heal you!

But you have to know that you need healing.  WE ALL DO!  WE are ALL sinners.  And He is just waiting for you to ask…to get close to Him.

But be encouraged…I am no doctor…but I can tell you that you need healing…you need to be clean!  You need to let the master surgeon operate on your heart.  You need to know that if you can just touch His robe….He will be faithful and heal you.  Don’t think so?

1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Grace and Peace, Dan

About Dan

My name is Dan. I grew up on the lovely Eastern Shore of Maryland...go Colonels! God really got a hold of me a few years back and asked me when I was going to "get in the game" and start living my life for Him. I have been burdened with the fact that many...many men in our world are wasting their lives while God wants them in the game. This is one of the ways that I am giving them that challenge...our nation, and our world depends on it. So thanks for your support...and your prayers. Dan
