Let me encourage you right away….you can make an ETERNAL difference in somebody’s life…just by being there. Just by getting involved. Just by offering. THERE ARE MANY…MANY…HURTING PEOPLE OUT THERE! They are crying out for help, and few are willing to answer.
My prayer today is that WHOEVER wrote the note and left it in near the door at Einstein’s Bagels in Springfield, VA reads this. AND…that God sends someone to them, who will give them good…godly counsel, and will step in to their life to rescue them!!! People…we need to get involved!!!
Friday morning, I was getting Bagels at Einstein’s in Springfield, VA. I saw a piece of paper folded up and a little tattered like people had stepped on it or driven over it. Now I am normally not in the habit of picking up folded pieces of paper in parking lots…but I saw it on the way in, I saw it on the way out…and when I was sitting in my truck to leave…I saw it again. God was leading me to this piece of paper…the reason is what the “piece of paper” said. This wasn’t just a piece of paper…this was a cry of desparation. I am not making this up…this is verbatim (I highlighted some parts):
“Everytime I watch the blade go down my arms & legs. I turn to grab the blade that hurts me again & again. As I throw it at the wall I scream & cry because I wish I could go back in the past to stop myself since no one would help. If only there was someone to help me but the blade seemed like it was my only friend, even though it hurt me instead of help me. I try to stop but can’t. I need help but no one will come. I need help but no one will come. I continue to watch the blood run. I feel like a disgrace, I thought I was strong but I realise I’m very week and need someone to help. If not I’ll stay like this. But instead of sad with blood going to my knees &elbow, I’ll be dead, ashamed and in the grave.”
The note was signed or initialled, but I couldn’t make it out. It looked like “SP”. And the note appeared to be written by a younger person. But this is note some rambling from a movie…..THIS IS SOMEONE SCREAMING FOR HELP!!!
How many people are standing right next to us with no hope? By the way, do you realize the THIRD leading cause of deaths after accidents, and homicide is SUICIDE!?!? They may be your spouse, child….or somebody else’s, but it doesn’t matter…they need help!! They are very similar to the man injured on the road and was helped by the “good samaritan.”
- Matthew 25:35-40 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’
- Galatians 6:2 – bear one another’s burdens, and thus fulfill the law of Christ.
Please…don’t walk by when someone needs you…they may be crying for help. In fact, I can guarantee you that they need something…and that is to know that the love of Jesus is real! And available to them! Let’s see how Jesus Himself puts it…
John 13:34-35 – 34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Be encouraged…you can save somebody’s life just by asking, “How are you doing?” And then desiring to hear the answer. Now do it…GET INVOLVED IN SOMEBODY’S LIFE!
And by the way…if God shows you a piece of paper…pick it up and read it.
Grace and peace, Dan
