We were living in Japan and had two life lessons that we learned. One was that we were at the train station, and our daughter got separated from us, and was about to be on a departing train while we were on the platform watching the doors beginning to close. Well my wife would have none of that….she lept in to action and was like superwoman. There was NO WAY those doors were going to close with her precious daughter inside.
The second lesson was with our son. We were at a festival, and he got separated from us. Since we were taller…we could see him, but he couldn’t see us. The look on his face was just like someone who is having trouble in the water….your eyes get big, and the fear comes across your face. Well we rushed to him, and got down and gave him a hug…and then his tears began to flow. Because it was at that point when he realized how frightened he was.
Same thing with God. We try to act tough. We sometimes don’t pay attention to where we are or what we are doing…and then all of the sudden….we are about to be in big trouble. And we are alone….or at least that is what Satan wants you to think. With God, you are never alone. He may not like where you are….but you are never alone. I think that most of us have heard Psalm 23…but have you ever considered it?
Psalm 23- 1 A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever. (NKJV)
Be encouraged with Dan’s paraphrase. I know that God takes care of me, and that He loves me, and that if I trust Him….He will take care of all of my needs. But just like a sheep, I ain’t real bright and need somebody to tell me where to get food and water. And I am really scared when it gets dark and I can’t see where I am going. But You take care of me because You know how weak I am. You never let me get out of Your view because You know how scared I would be. And You would never let me get separated from You in a foreign country.
And lastly…You would do anything for me. Including dying for me….which You did.
Grace and Shalom, Dan
