There is a couple of verses that haunt me in the bible…and both of them seem like they are questions pointed right at me. But actually they are aimed at all of us. One of them is found in the book of Esther.
This is one of my favorite books because it is more like a novel or a movie than it is heavy biblical literature. And even though it never mentions the word, “God” in it…God is everywhere in it. They actually made a movie about it, and it is called, “A Night With the King.” It is very well done and good family entertainment.
The story is about a young Jewish girl who gets married to the King, who did not know that she was a Jewess. When there was a plot that was uncovered to kill ALL of the Jews in the land, her uncle, Mordecai told her that she needed to reveal her identity to the King. Well not so fast…it is not that easy. Back then, a Queen couldn’t just waltz in to see the king. She had to be invited. BUT…lives were on the line! And here is what her uncle said to her….
Esther 4:14 – For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (NIV)
Wow….now that is some heavy stuff! Maybe you rose to this royal position for such a time as this. What about you? Maybe you rose to your position in your company…your community….whatever…for “such a time as this.” Will you speak up, and declare the truth? Or will you remain silent and wait for someone “else” to step forward….
And the other one is even more powerful for me…
Ezekiel 22:30 – 30 I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one. (NASB)
Whoa….this isn’t just God looking to talk to somebody…this is God looking for some man….ANY man…who would intercede for God to save the LAND!!! And prevent its destruction?
You don’t think there is power in following God? You don’t think there is power in prayer? Guess again! Lives are at stake…ETERNITY is at stake. Don’t be silent.
Be encouraged, you can be the one who saves the land…by speaking truth and by crying out to God to intercede for a world that has lost its way.
Who says this Christian stuff is for wimps….and if you read the bible…God does warn us, and warn us, and warn us….but He also says…enough. I pray that this hits you right where it hits me….
Grace and Shalom, Dan
