Are you smart…or Wise?

Day 258

I am blessed to know that I ain’t real bright.  In fact, when they were passing out brains, I thought they said “rains” and asked for a drizzle….

And while that is not far from the truth….I always enjoy watching smart people on TV.  They have their nose in the air as they are gracing us with there perspective on life.  Especially when they tell us that we are foolish to believe in God….and foolish to believe in creation.

And then they will tell me something really smart when you ask them about how a moth decides to roll itself in a cocoon….turn itself in to goo…and then emerge as the most aerodynamically amazing animal ever created…sorry…evolved.  They normally say something like, “well nature just decided it was time for that to happen.”  Now THAT is good science.  What INTELLIGENCE!!!  or maybe…we should see what God thinks….

Here is how God says it.

Psalm 14:1-3 – The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; There is no one who does good. The Lord has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one. (NASB)

The interesting thing about that is that fool really means insane.  And the correct translation is that the fool says “NO” TO God.  In other words, you have to be INSANE to look at the intricacies of the world, the human body, nature, the cosmos…and think it just happened.

Like one of my favorite West Virginian scientists says, “I ain’t never seen nothing blow up before.”  And that is about the most intelligent thing I have heard about the subject.

And do you notice that it says…”together” they have all become corrupt.  Because when you hang around people…they influence you. Don’t think so?

  1. 1 Corinthians 15:33 – Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” (NIV)
  2. Proverbs 13:20 – He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm. (NIV)
  3. Romans 1:29-31 –  29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. (NIV)

I couldn’t resist bolding, “they invent ways of doing evil”…talk about a downward spiral.  But that is what we see on TV, the internet, you name it…

But be encouraged…if you seek godly men to be your friends and counselors, they will sharpen you and guide you to the Lord…  And that is where WISDOM is found.

Proverbs 27:17 – As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. (NIV)

Abraham Lincoln once said, “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.”

Grace and Peace, Dan

About Dan

My name is Dan. I grew up on the lovely Eastern Shore of Maryland...go Colonels! God really got a hold of me a few years back and asked me when I was going to "get in the game" and start living my life for Him. I have been burdened with the fact that many...many men in our world are wasting their lives while God wants them in the game. This is one of the ways that I am giving them that challenge...our nation, and our world depends on it. So thanks for your support...and your prayers. Dan
