Are you serving God’s Purpose?

Day 259

I don’t know if you all have ever heard Dr. Tony Evans…but you should tune in to him.  I think that he is one of the powerful and spirit led teachers living today.  He is currently running a series about how a Christian should vote, which should be a MUST LISTEN before you get in the voting booth.

But today’s encouragement is to challenge you to ask one question….are you serving God’s Purposes?  Your initial answer is probably…I don’t know.  And if that is the case, you can be encouraged that you KNOW that you have some work to do.  The book of Acts gives a great epitaph for David….

Acts 13:36 – “For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep, and was laid among his fathers and underwent decay…

Now you may be saying…that’s it?  After being King of Israel, in the lineage of Jesus, conquered nations, killed Goliath….and that is all you got?  David served God’s purposes, died, and rotted in the grave…a little dark isn’t it?

No…it is a GREAT epitaph.  He served GOD’S purposes for his generation!  He did GOOD!  How are we doing?  What is our epitaph.  David was an adulterer, liar, murderer, schemer, doubter…but God says that David served His purposes for his generation.

And that is what we are ALL called to do…be available so that we can do what He wants us to do for OUR GENERATION!  Serving is great, being a great mom/dad is great, being a good provider is great…but serving God is AWESOME!

Just to let you know…my works, and your works will be examined….and they will be tested with fire.  Because all of our “good works” that are done so we get the glory are worthless….BUT…the works that we do for God will ENDURE…check this verse out…

1 Corinthians 3:11-15 – 11For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. 14If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. 15If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

So be encouraged…if you serve God’s purposes for your Generation…then you have done EXACTLY what you were supposed to do….and Jesus will be delighted to meet you!

By the way, do you notice it doesn’t say anything about your job, or your title, or what car you drive.  Isn’t that cool that none of that stuff that we scurry around to get…means nothing…

Grace and Peace, Dan

About Dan

My name is Dan. I grew up on the lovely Eastern Shore of Maryland...go Colonels! God really got a hold of me a few years back and asked me when I was going to "get in the game" and start living my life for Him. I have been burdened with the fact that many...many men in our world are wasting their lives while God wants them in the game. This is one of the ways that I am giving them that challenge...our nation, and our world depends on it. So thanks for your support...and your prayers. Dan
