I love people who are going through trials in life…people who are misfits. Because they are honest. Let’s face it…when you are in the valley…there is no reason not to be honest. And when you have a team of misfits….you are unbeatable. Because when you are with this elite cadre…you are supposed to fail.
How so Dan? Well look at it this way…if you think that you have it all together, you are either lying or fooling yourself. When you break down the “front” that we put on…here is the truth; you are either in a valley, coming out of valley, or going in to a valley….isn’t that great? You see it is those who think that they have it all together who think that they don’t need God. Well…the bible puts it this way…
Psalm 16:18 – Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling.(NASB)
Now don’t get me wrong…God doesn’t want us to go around with our heads low like we are facing the end of the world…He wants us to realize that without Him….we are nothing! That is why Jesus said…
John 15:1-7 – “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. (NIV)
When you look a the disciples that Jesus chose…I don’t see a whole lot of Rhodes Scholars, or elite, or powerful….just a bunch of common guys. They were fishermen, tax collectors, doubters, disgruntled folks probably….and then Jesus steps in their life…and they were never the same.
Be encouraged, no matter what life is dealing you…there is only one thing that you have to do. And that is realize that without Jesus you are helpless. When you get to that point….God is going to do amazing things in your life, because that is the point that you will finally let him.
Isn’t it great to be a misfit?
Grace and Peace, Dan
