God will have to answer that question…

Day 289

I was in a bible study this morning and we are talking about the book of Genesis and one of the discussion questions was, “What has happened in your life that could have brought doubt in believing God gives good things to His children?”

The discussion was great, and centered around various tragedies in life that have caused us to doubt God’s “good” desires for our life.  And then a friend of mine told me that in hindsight, his trial…which was significant and gut-wrenching…led him to two questions…

  1. Was it a good thing?  And let’s face it…the answer is normally NO!  But the second question was…
  2. Was it “necessary?”  And his follow on comment on that was that “God was going to have to answer that one.”

What a great comment!!  Because we only see life from our lens…which is always “me” focused.  For example…we ALWAYS want our family to live in bliss and happiness and for everybody to live long, healthy, and prosperous lives, and then one day we go sleep.  Well that is interrupted by the first car accident, the first miscarriage, the first divorce, the first death…you name it.

But that leads me to one of my favorite passages in the bible…and I really recommend that you memorize it…

Philippians 4:6-7 – 6Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (NASB)

What do you mean God…how can I NOT be anxious? I am getting ready to lose my job, my house, my wife, my….self respect.  Work is tough, I am sick, my kid is sick….I am out of control….and I am scared….

Well think of it like this.  If you plant a seed of corn….what comes up?  Corn.  If you plant an apple seed….what comes up?  An Apple tree.

Well how do I know that God will deliver me?  Because He has before….every time!!! This is called faith, and that is how I wrap my arms around this verse….

Hebrews 11:1 – Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (NKJV)

You see back in Philippians 4:7 we get this…”the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus”.  Think of it this way.  The word “guard” is like a soldier being put on the march around your life to guard and protect you.  Everytime that God delivers us, it is like God puts another sentry on the march.  The more Jesus delivers me…the more sentries I have marching around me….and the same goes for you.

So why are we strengthened in Christ Jesus?  God confirms His commitment for me (and you) in that God loved me so much that He delivered me from death by the death of His Son Jesus.  And Jesus taught us all this amazing verse…

Matthew 6:33 – 33“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.(NASB)

So be encouraged….the answer is that God DOES desire to give good things to His children.  And are trials a good thing?  Not for the present time maybe…but are the “necessary?”  You bet.  And if we ask God…He will tell us why…and that will make us love Him more!

Grace and Peace, Dan

About Dan

My name is Dan. I grew up on the lovely Eastern Shore of Maryland...go Colonels! God really got a hold of me a few years back and asked me when I was going to "get in the game" and start living my life for Him. I have been burdened with the fact that many...many men in our world are wasting their lives while God wants them in the game. This is one of the ways that I am giving them that challenge...our nation, and our world depends on it. So thanks for your support...and your prayers. Dan

One Response to God will have to answer that question…

  1. Neider says:

Dan, great way to capture the concept and explain via the Bible. We may never know why things happen and why there is pain and suffering in the world, but there is. In the end, when I do meet God, I’m not too sure I will care why those things happened. I don’t think it matters at that point.
