Do you ever feel distant from God? I sure do…even though I don’t want to.
Well that is probably because we don’t think about God’s checklist. You see…God can’t stand sin….it is against His definition of Holiness. Now that doesn’t mean that everyone is out of the club…because Paul tells us in Romans,,,
Romans 3:23 – for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (NIV)
Okay….so no one is in the club without having accepted Jesus as their Savior. But that doesn’t mean that we just walk up the isle in church and then we sit on our butts for the rest of our life, and expect God to be delighted with that….nothing could be further from the truth.
God always has…and always will call us to know Him better. To love Him more…but that only happens when we spend time with Him. And to spend time with Him requires us to climb the Holy Hill….confused? Hang in there…
Psalm 24:3-4 – 3Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? And who may stand in His holy place?
4He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood and has not sworn deceitfully.
Okay…rules me out. BUT…that is why God asks us to repent and ask for forgiveness. I was surprised when I read the book of Daniel (no, not about me). You see…he was one of those VERY few men, of which nothing bad was said about….and the Angel Gabriel referred to him as “Daniel, you who are highly esteemed”….WOW….but…look at how Daniel prays…
Daniel 9:20 – Now while I was speaking and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God in behalf of the holy mountain of my God (NASB)
WHOA….a man who is highly favored by God…and nothing bad is spoken of….is confessing “his” sins and the “sin of the nation Israel, and asking God for things in prayers of intercession…. So how do we stay on the Holy Hill like Daniel? And like David talks about?…..here you go! This is a great checklist for your refrigerator…
Psalm 15 – 1 Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent?
Who may live on your holy mountain?
2 The one whose walk is blameless,
who does what is righteous,
who speaks the truth from their heart;
3 whose tongue utters no slander,
who does no wrong to a neighbor,
and casts no slur on others;
4 who despises a vile person
but honors those who fear the Lord;
who keeps an oath even when it hurts,
and does not change their mind;
5 who lends money to the poor without interest;
who does not accept a bribe against the innocent.
Whoever does these things will never be shaken.
Be encouraged…really encouraged! God knows you are imperfect, and He knows that we all struggle with sin. BUT…He just wants us to desire to be with Him on His Holy Hill….and then He will give us, through the power of the Holy Spirit the ability to stay on the Holy Hill with Him. Now that is just plain cool…and it is a great place to be.
Grace and Peace, Dan
