Who do you listen to?

Day 322

One of the great things that my wife and I do is watch Charles Stanley on Sunday Mornings.  Thanks to the blessing of technology, we have that recorded.  We grab a cup of coffee, grab our bibles, and listen.  This preps us for the day, and preps us for church.  Because PLEASE never sacrifice listening to someone on the radio or TV for a church family….Hebrews says it this way…

Hebrews 10:23-25 –23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (ESV)

So back to Charles Stanley. Today’s lesson was a sermon from his son, Andy Stanley on the occasion of Charles Stanley’s 80th Birthday.  But the great thing about it…was that it was a sermon about the legacy that Charles Stanley had “taught” his son.  It was powerful….because they were lessons observed…and not just “taught.”

But the point of this blog is this.  Instead of watching In Touch, we could have watched things on three hundred channels….most of which were about things that were absolutely worthless.  In other words, why do we waste our time watching things that do nothing to prepare us for the Kingdom.  Now I have to admit that the Skins are playing the Cowboys tonight, and it is going to be a great game, because it has been an exciting season….BUT….enough is enough.

I can guarantee you that there are 50 channels that you can watch that are nothing but sports news.  OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!  ENOUGH!!!  Because Jesus tells us that He is going to come like a thief in the night to take His children home….and here is what we should be doing while we wait anxiously for Him….

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11- 1Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you.2For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. 3While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. 4But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief; 5for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness; 6so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober. 7For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night. 8But since we are of theday, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation. 9For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him.11Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing. (NASB)

So be encouraged…you are building a legacy in your friends and your children.  Don’t waste it by idle wasting of your time…but instead….do things that build others up.  Listen to things that build YOU up…and prepare your legacy so that we you meet the King, He will say…

Matthew 25:21- “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ (NIV)

Grace and Peace, Dan

About Dan

My name is Dan. I grew up on the lovely Eastern Shore of Maryland...go Colonels! God really got a hold of me a few years back and asked me when I was going to "get in the game" and start living my life for Him. I have been burdened with the fact that many...many men in our world are wasting their lives while God wants them in the game. This is one of the ways that I am giving them that challenge...our nation, and our world depends on it. So thanks for your support...and your prayers. Dan
