Our Men For Nations 9-month through the bible study is in the book of Exodus. And that is a POWERFUL book as it describes the Israelites freedom from the bondage of the Egyptians. Unfortunately, we only think about the crossing of the Red Sea…instead of how God got everything ready.
God could have easily said, pack up and let’s go…or let me teleport you to the promised land. But instead, He did it in a way that would show people how powerful and good He is.
Moses comes on the scene, reluctantly and sheepishly (like most of us), and here is what he says when God says, go speak to Pharaoh. Does Moses pull out his sword and say, ABSOLUTELY LORD….not exactly.
Exodus 3:11 – But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?” (NASB)
And Moses says, what do I tell the Israelites? They are going to want to know what my credentials are….and they are going to say, who made you boss? God’s response?
Exodus 3:14-15 – 14God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” 15God, furthermore, said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is My name forever, and this is My memorial-name to all generations. (NASB)
And Moses…still powerful and ready for battle….not so much. Let’s face it, Moses is only human. He is saying to God, hey…I am a shepherd…who am I? You got the wrong guy! God could have easily said, “I am tired of you”…next! But God says, Moses…I am with you, and I will give you authority to speak for me, and the proof that I am sending you…okay…try this…
Exodus 4:1-5 – 1Then Moses said, “What if they will not believe me or listen to what I say? For they may say, ‘The LORD has not appeared to you.’” 2The LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?” And he said, “A staff.” 3Then He said, “Throw it on the ground.” So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it. 4But the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand and grasp it by its tail”—so he stretched out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand— 5“that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.” (NASB)
Be encouraged…if you are doing God’s will? Then YOU speak for the KING! There is no higher authority than that.
Grace and Peace, Dan
