When are men going to stand up?

Day 292

I am so sick and tired of seeing show after show (not that I really watch much TV), and commercial after commercial where men are portrayed as absolute idiots. In almost any scenario…kids have it together, women are in charge, and the Dad is the bumbling idiot who is so excited that he can record his shows on his DVR that he is incapable of rational thought.

Or we are portrayed as an idiot whose only goal is to prepare for Sunday football and stock up on beer so they can be a drunken, bumbling idiot….

In fact…the last positive male role model on TV was Bill Cosby.

Men, is that really what we will settle for? Let me put it to you bluntly….God is NEVER happy when men don’t stand up. Look at the biblical examples.

  1. The first is in Judges 4:8-10 – Barak said to her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.” “Certainly I will go with you,” said Deborah. “But because of the course you are taking, the honor will not be yours, for the Lord will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.” So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh. 10 There Barak summoned Zebulun and Naphtali, and ten thousand men went up under his command. Deborah also went up with him. (NIV)
  2. Isaiah 59:16 – And He saw that there was no man, and was astonished that there was no one to intercede; Then His own arm brought salvation to Him, and His righteousness upheld Him.
  3. Ezekiel 22:30-31-30“I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one. 31“Thus I have poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; their way I have brought upon their heads,” declares the Lord GOD.

I don’t know about you…but I am tired of us collectively sitting on our butts….while the world races toward Gomorrah.

Be encouraged though….it is not too late.  IF…and I repeat…IF….we start speaking up, and standing up, and leading. Tell you what….I will do it if you will.

Day 237

I went out to David’s Tent on the ellipse yesterday, and to the Summon’s event at the Washington Monument sponsored by the National Day of Prayer Taskforce.  Both were sparsely attended…in fact the Summon’s event was probably 80% women.

Now don’t get me wrong…God is going to honor every event done in His Name. No doubt about it.  But think about it….what is missing?  The Youth (YWAM) are crying out to God in front of the White House…the Women (and Men) with the National Day of Prayer are going around the city praying for the government.

But where are the men?  There is a tragic story from ~2700 years ago, but it sounds like today….

Isaiah 59:9-17 – Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness does not overtake us; We hope for light, but behold, darkness, for brightness, but we walk in gloom. 10 We grope along the wall like blind men, we grope like those who have no eyes; we stumble at midday as in the twilight, among those who are vigorous we are like dead men.
11 All of us growl like bears, and moan sadly like doves; we hope for justice, but there is none, for salvation, but it is far from us.12 For our transgressions are multiplied before You, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and we know our iniquities:  13 Transgressing and denying the Lord, and turning away from our God, Speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving in and uttering from the heart lying words. 14 Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far away; for truth has stumbled in the street, and uprightness cannot enter.
15 Yes, truth is lacking; and he who turns aside from evil makes himself a prey. Now the Lord saw, and it was displeasing in His sight that there was no justice.
And He saw that there was no man, and was astonished that there was no one to intercede; Then His own arm brought salvation to Him, and His righteousness upheld Him. 17 He put on righteousness like a breastplate,
And a helmet of salvation on His head; and He put on garments of vengeance for clothing and wrapped Himself with zeal as a mantle.

Men….WAKE UP!!!!!  Think about how horrible that is….He saw that there was no man…  We watch TV and there are a bunch of idiots doing all sorts of things to make themselves feel like men.  Or appear to be a man….God says….a REAL man stands up when there is injustice….and when the world tells us what is good is bad…and what is bad is good.  WAKE UP!!!  God is looking for MEN…notice he didn’t say that He didn’t find any one….He said there was no MAN!

So men…don’t grope around like blind men.  Don’t grumble and moan….Stand UP and cry out to God for repentance…and then that He might rend Heaven and intervene….

So be encouraged…men are very important to God.  But….He is looking for you to STAND UP.

Have you asked for forgiveness lately?

Monday, November 28th, 2011

Do you want to be freed from bondage and pain, and suffering? Do you want to get past that hurdle that you can’t seem to get past….then ask somebody to forgive you! That may sound a little strange, but it is so essential. Many times we let the hurt of the past poison our lives. We don’t want to give up the right to be angry….because that is power my friend…because you are angry and EVERYONE should immediately bow to you and do things “your” way. When you get to that point, pat yourself on the back and say congratulations…to yourself that is…because you will probably have alienated anybody that you have “lorded” that power and anger over….and anybody that you “cared” about. Because all you do when you get to that point is make “yourself” miserable. I will explain after you consider Hebrews 12:14-15 (NIV) – Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

I learned this lesson courtesy of my best friend…the one that I didn’t want to learn it from. You see, I was saddened and angry because things hadn’t come out the way that “I” planned it. Nobody would listen to me, and I was right!!! But by taking that position…I was in a bad mood any time I was around those that I “cared” about. Because the issue isn’t about who is right, the issue is about what attitude you take. In my case the issue is irrelevant…my attitude was relevant. You see, God told me that I am not in the “fixing” business…that is not my job…that is HIS job. I am not the one to execute God’s plan…that is HIS job.

My job is to use the approach in Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV) – Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

And that means that God will answer your request. The answer may be yes, no, wait, or I have a better plan…but He will answer.

In the meantime…get off of your high horse…apologize, and ask for forgiveness from those who in your mind…may not deserve it…but that is only because you are so busy being right that you probably don’t realize how much pain you are causing.  My “friend” gave me this searing comment, “You say that you are happy as a Christian?  You are miserable every time you are around us…who would want to be a part of that?” Ouch…as a guy who wants to tell people how wonderful and joyful the life of those who follow Christ is…well I guess that I didn’t do so well.  But after asking for forgiveness for my bitter attitude, God has opened up my eyes to a whole new world, because He has reminded me that “fixing things” is his job.  My job is to follow, and watch Him work!  And to pray without ceasing about those things that I can’t control…which is everything.

Hard to do? Yep…on your own power. But after you bring it to the Lord in fervent prayer…it is easier. And after you have done it…IT IS LIBERATING!!! Try it and let me know how it works out.

Until the next time….I reside in God’s grace and peace…and I am so happy that I do. Dan

Men…it is time to pray!

Friday, October 21st, 2011
Men, God has burdened me heavily by our need for prayer.  It is amazing that prayer is probably the easiest thing to do…yet the last thing that we do. Prayer is not just about repenting for our sins, although that is certainly a great thing to do.  Prayer isn’t just about saying thanks for what I have and this is what I need today…although that is not inappropriate.  Prayer helps fulfill God’s desire to want us to know Him better!  Let’s face it, if you had a friend, parent, child, family member, etc….you wouldn’t know them very well if you only spoke to them twice a year.  Think about that….and start praying. Prayer is the most powerful force in the Universe…and has eternal ramifications.
Read these two articles about prayer and revival.  Specifically the 1858 revival fueled by Jeremiah Lanphier.  Unbelievable…

This one is much longer, but read sections 4-9.  You will be floored.

It is time that we rise up.  Consider Ezekiel 22:30 –  I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one.
Lets be those men right now!  At Burke Community Church in Burke, VA, we meet at 6:00 a.m. (EST) every Friday to pray for God to change our Nation, and change us.  We often hear the line, God Bless America….well that will only happen if America Blesses God.  When come before the Lord with prayer, supplication, and thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6-7)…we do bless the Lord, and He is happy when we do that.  Now let’s get at it.
